Storyline

Madaari is a social thriller film released on 2016, directed by Nishikant Kamat. A mysterious man with a tragic past (Irrfan as Nirmal Kumar) kidnaps the son of Home Minister Prashant Godwami (Tushar Dalvi). The kidnapper doesn’t demand for any money but tells the minister that he should find his missing son (Apu) first, if he wants Rohan back. He also hints that he lost his son in a conspiracy stemming from corruption. Nachiket suspects that Apu may be a victim of a man-made disaster like a bridge collapse that had occurred in Mumbai. It is discovered that Nirmal’s seven year old son Apu got killed while he was passing under the Mumbai flyover which collapsed, killing many others. He now seeks answers from those who were involved in the dubious activities that led to the bridge collapse. He calls for a meeting at his home, forcing the ministers to show up as he warns that he may kill Rohan, if they don’t. He also asks a TV channel to cover their interaction live. The home minister, his colleague, civil engineer and bridge contractor admit their wrong doings and corruption allegations. They confess that they extorted money for themselves and their political parties by using substandard material. All of it is televised. On getting the answers he seeks, Nirmal lets Rohan and the rest leave his house safely. Nachiket arrests Nirmal and let him let go of his son’s belongings in the sea, before taking him to jail. Nirmal gets the closure he seeks.

The concept of Madaari about when a common man decides to raise his voice against the powerful (Govt), it does make a difference. Madaari has its own strengths and it also very successfully conveys the message. The subject of the film is so relevant. We are aware of these shortcomings of our society, system, government, hardly doing anything to change the system, still unable to bring any changes. But at least an effort to convey a pertinent point through such films generate hopes of changes in the outlook towards world and also making world a better place to live.
