About Movie

The Tashkent Files is an Indian Hindi-language conspiracy thriller film about the death of former Indian prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, it stars Shweta Basu Prasad, Naseeruddin Shah and Mithun Chakraborty in lead roles. The film released on 12 April 2019 to mostly unfavorable reviews from critics and was widely deemed to be politically motivated in light of the concurrent 2019 general elections.

The Tashkent Files revolves around a young, ambitious journalist Ragini (Shweta Basu Prasad) who publishes an article about the mysterious death of India's second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shashtri

Even after more than five decades, the death of India's former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri remains clouded with mystery.

A few hours after signing the agreement on January 10th, 1966, the Indian Prime Minister retired to his room after having a light meal which Jan Mohammad, Indian ambassador TN Kaul's personal had cooked, and a glass of milk and went to sleep. As mentioned in the reports, Shastri woke up coughing at around 1:25 am the next day (January 11, 1966) and as strange as it sounds, he had no intercom or telephone in his room; so he had to walk to another room to ask someone to call his personal doctor- Dr. Chugh. Unfortunately, by the time Dr. Chugh arrived, Shastri was fighting for his last breath. While the later reports which emerged after Lal Bahadur Shastri's death attribute his demise to a heart attack, there are several doubts that raise questions on its credibility.
